As we get back to school and work we replace our carefree summertime clutches that fit nothing more than our phones and wallets for heftier bags that often carry half of our life’s possessions. After many years of lugging unnecessary things or forgetting important items at home, I’ve compiled a list of bag essentials that have saved me time and time again!
Alyssa’s Bag Essentials
- Lip balm – Super important! Having chapped lips can be uncomfortable and makes me feel insecure so I make sure to always carry at least one (although I may or may not be known to carry up to three) on hand. My favorites at the moment are Glossier’s “Cherry Balm Dot Com” and Smith’s Rosebud Lip Salve.
- Hand Sanitizer – I can be a bit of a germaphobe at times and living in NYC means I need to have sanitizer on deck.
- Deodorant – This is more important for me during the summer months than the fall/winter but always handy- you never know when you may need to freshen up a bit.
- Oil blotting sheets – These have definitely saved my life many times in the past. If you have oily or even combination skin this is much easier to carry around than powder and a brush. Three dabs and your face looks fresh again! My favorite for years has been Boscia’s Blotting Linens.
- Headphones – I ALWAYS need to have headphones in my bag. I never know when I’ll need to tune the world out especially after a long day at school or the office.
- Hair Ties – Being that I have huge hair (that entirely has a mind of its own) carrying a spare hair tie or two is definitely a must. While I usually wear one on my wrist sometimes it’s better to just carry a spare in my bag.
- Gum or Mints – Very necessary. Always. Even if you don’t always need them (which you will after any lunch including onion, garlic, etc.) someone else around you might! 🙂
- Painkillers – You never know when the stresses of school, work, or mother nature may throw you for a loop- always good to have these on hand.
- Phone Charger/Portable Charger – Self explanatory: you will really thank yourself for having this when spending the day on Snapchat takes a toll on your battery.
