Toners – We’ve all heard of them, beauty magazines have embraced them, shunned them, and loved them again. But what do they even DO??
A toner is used right after cleansing and right before applying moisturizer, the main function is to remove excess oils from the skin, minimize pores and brighten skin. Most toners are water based and are made with varying ingredients that will be beneficial depending on your skin type. Here’s a quick guide to picking the perfect toner to keep your skin looking clear and fresh!
Toners for Oily/Blemish Prone Skin: Contrary to popular belief, alcohol is not TOTALLY horrible for your skin, especially if you tend to have oilier skin but like all things in life… it’s best used in moderation. For this skin type you’ll want to find toners with names containing words like astringent, clarifying, cleansing, brightening, etc. to remove all excess oils and dirt your cleanser may have missed.
Toners for Dry/Sensitive Skin: For more sensitive or dry skin the LAST thing you’d want to do is use a drying/harsh formula! For these skin types I’d definitely suggest using a milder and soothing toner. Look for toners with names containing words such as hydrating, lotion, calming and ingredients such as chamomile, green tea and cucumber. This extra step could add more moisture to your face and keep you looking refreshed and dewy!
Toners for Normal Skin: Normal skin tends to get overlooked but for normal skin, it’s important to pick a toner depending on the weather. Regardless of your skin type, the hot summer months can make your face sweaty and sticky – during this time you’d want to get a more mattifying toner to keep the skin taut and dry. Similarly for the harsher winter months, you want to apply as many hydrating products as possible and the right toner can help keep your face moisturized and soft!
