The newest Kendrick Lamar video for Loyalty got me thinking. Which music video special effects are most memorable? There’s some obvious entries to the list, but I have a top 10 that might shock some of you.

Kendrick Lamar in ‘Alright”

So many iconic images in this video. The cops carrying the car, Kenny being flown around Compton. This is definitely making any music video special effects list.

Sisqo Running on Women

Sisqo was doing parkour on women in thong bikinis on the beach. That sentence alone describes how epic the music video special effects in Thong Song were.

Missy Elliott in ANY DAMN THING

Missy and Dave Meyers have done more for music video special effects than any duo you can name. They could have their own top ten, so she definitely made mine at least once.

OutKast – Bombs over Baghdad

A song this great deserves a music video this great. Dave Meyers made my list twice already and for damn good reason.

TLC – Waterfalls

 The TLC bop is undefeated. Not to mention this is one of the best songs from the best girl group ever.

Will Smith – M.I.B. Theme Song

Please debate me and say this line dance with the alien isn’t one of the greatest moments in Sci-Fi Hip Hop. Only the Fresh Prince could bring galaxies together.

Michael and Janet Jackson – Scream

Jay Z and Kanye West – Niggas In Paris

Remember the epilepsy warning on this video when it first dropped? If your music video special effects are prone to cause seizures you deserve some recognition.

Kanye – Good Life

Back to Back for Mr. West. Well deserved too, this may be the best lyric video ever made.

Ma$e ft. Puff Daddy – Feel So Good

It would be no list without Diddy. The man who elevated Hip Hop visuals like few others. Shiny suits, fireworks on the Vegas strip and all-black cheer squads… I’m sold.

Honorable Mention:

Diddy – Come With Me (Godzilla Theme Song)

Not to be confused with the song Come To Me with Nichole Scherzinger, but this music video was epic. It just sucks that the SFX were largely from the movie and not the music video.

MIA – Bad Girls

The Visuals from this are just insane, no SFX here though.
