If you’re older than 23 and reading this on your couch instead of going out, doing work, completing chores, etc. than this article is for you. You’ve likely discovered the worst part of adulting. It’s hard AF.
The tasks you complete as you fight to return to your bed at the end of the day. As I exit my 20’s I feel like it’s my duty to pass along the adulting wins I’ve accumulated over the years.
- Brita Water Pitcher – Best advice you’re ever going to get. Drink water and leave people alone. You want clearer skin, first step is drink water. Want to work out and lose weight? Avoid fatigue, drink water. Not sleeping well? Drink water. The Brita Water Pitcher saves me money every month. I can avoid buying bottles of water and also avoid the chemicals that are in my tap water.
- Comfortable Bedding – You go out and work all day, deal with dumb coworkers, fight through traffic and MTA delays, why sleep on an uncomfortable bed?! Fellas, I learned this from women. There’s a reason she’s got 45 pillows on her bed. You spend 33% of your time in bed, the world outside is difficult. You need to create a space to decompress and relax, why not make that the same place you spend a third of your day? Comfortable blankets, pillows, mattress toppers, etc. Also, the more comfortable you make your bed, the more comfortable others will feel in your bed.
- A mentor – This comes in many forms. It can be a coach, boss, parent, aunt, friend, etc. A mentor is someone who behaves or achieves in a way you would like to behave or achieve. They then impart that wisdom on you and help illuminate your path ahead. Not only do I have mentors who help me with my career, but I have mentors who help me when it comes to where I may want to live, relationships, finances, etc.
- 401K – You like free money? If your company matches 401K contributions and you’re not taking advantage… you’re leaving money on the table. In the past I haven’t always been able to max out my contributions but I always made at least some contributions.
- Crockpot – Set It and Forget It. Ideally, I’d meal plan every Sunday but sometimes I’d rather binge watch Master of None instead. For weeks like that I love my crock pot. I wake up 15 minutes early, dump the ingredients into a crock pot, give it a quick stir, set it and go to work. Nothing like coming home to dinner and until I can afford a live-in chef, this will do just fine.Adulting is hard, but it doesn’t have to be. Finding your own niche, what you enjoy and maximizing that will allow you to build a life you can be proud of and enjoy.
