Going out to dinner with the one you love can get a little boring. I, personally, enjoy a bit more of an immersive experience than watching my S.O. eat and plus, I’d much rather participate in an activity with my partner that a) I’ve never done, b) they’ve never done or c) we’ve never done together. This Valentine’s Day is special to me in particular because it also marks a year for my partner/ future-baby-father and I. Below is a comprehensive list of some love-building activity ideas that are a little more fun than deciding to relocate dinner from the couch to a restaurant:
Ice Skating: Bryant Park, Central Park, Chelsea Piers…most options here are in the same sphere of quality.
Roller Skating: I highly recommend Pier 2 in Brooklyn for this one.
Rock Climbing: Brooklyn Boulder- good, clean fun.
Helicopter Ride: If that’s your (semi-expensive) cup of tea.
Escape Room: A really cool Sleep-No-More-esque interactive experience where you and your partner have to figure out how to “escape” a trap room. I’ve been wanting to do this, badly and I’ve heard good things.
Dream House: Opposite end of the spectrum from Escape Room, Dream House is an “interactive” art exhibit where you take your shoes off, sit on a pillow, take a nap if you’re feelin’ like it and enjoy the quiet and cool, light-driven ambiance. Doesn’t sound fun but it’s fun, trust me.
Sensory Deprivation Tank (for 2): This may seem like a bizarre thing to do with your boo for V-Day but this is something I’ve wanted to try and I honestly don’t think I’d be able to without having my protective partner within a yelp’s distance from me. Call me a baby, whatever. Also I think it’s a really interesting experience to share with someone you’re close with.
The Grace Hotel: I know what you’re thinking. Midtown hotel hell? That is one way to look at it but this place features a sauna and pool within arms reach of the hotel bar and the place is sort of in a post-scene dead zone that can be kind of fun for the right antisocial couple.
Turkish/ Russian Bath House: A classic downtown escape and definitely not as gross as Spa Castle, promise!
Infrared Sauna: Gravity in the East Village features a 2-for-1 deal for the couple in deep need of a detox.
SkyZone: For the couple who wants to spend the day in an INDOOR TRAMPOLINE PARK together. SO FUN.
