Where else could you find sets by dope DJ’s, niche artist, and a few rappers who are favorited in your soundcloud rotation? None other then D.C’s Trillectro!
My day got off to a little bit of a late start simply because i indulged in hood rat activities with my friends the day before. Well not necessarily hood rat, but let’s just say we were all out of character the night before. Just hours before Trillectro I morphed into Littany Sky. Most of you haven’t met Littany yet. She’s my alter ego who came to life shortly after my set at my friend Jabari’s ‘Color’s Party’ (you will all soon meet her). Both Pierre and I stayed at Jabari’s party for a little while after my set to hear DJ Supa Nova play, and let me just say he had the party rocking. Shortly after watching him play for a little while my homie Scooty (Rock Creek Social Club) picked up both up and then we headed to Opera Night Club for Yes Julz’s party. Once we got to Opera we linked with Ashley Outrageous and the madness had begun. We participated in our own Dabathon, we watched a twerk- a-thon directed by Julz and other crazy shenanigans. Oh, the fun was had my friends! I’ll try and include some photos from that night in my photo gallery as well.
After officially rolling out of bed at 12 PM the following day we got ready, and had an extremely late brunch which was a phenomenal plate of chicken and waffles that my cousin’s roommate made us. After devouring every bit of food that was on the plate we headed to the the Merriweather Post Pavillon for the show. The crew and I which consisted of myself, Scooty, Pierre and Kah pre-gamed for a little just before entering the concert grounds. Unfortunately just as we pulled up i could hear JMSN wrapping up his set, which i was pissed i missed because i have yet to see him perform. At this point i was like i’m not about to miss Kehlani, so i darted from the parking lot to will call to collect my credentials so that i wouldn’t miss her set. I guess my timing was on point because just as i had entered the amphitheater i could feel goosebumps forming on my arms from Baelani’s voice. Yet again i got to witness her as she performed most of the songs off her latest project ‘You Should Be Here’. Both her and her all girl crew of dancers kept the energy high with their effortless dance moves too.
There was a short intermission after her set so we went backstage where we linked with other homies who were in attendance for the weekend (Norma, D.R.A.M, Raven, Rayma and more). After catching up I then darted back to the stage to see Cashmere Cat who had me feeling like i was on her soundcloud except this time i was hearing her drop a live amplified set of reworks and some of her own original songs that had the crowd turnt. As Cashmere Cat’s set came to an end,Yes Julz of Miami who was hosting ready’d the crowd for Dom Kennedy. It was nostalgic to see Dom hit the stage because the last time i had seen him perform was a couple of years ago. In between set changes we caught up with friends, devoured the Hawaiian bread +fruit that craft services provided and ran to the stage to see RL Grime turn the crowd up. Behind the stage I had the pleasure of meeting Debra Lee, and i also got to catch up with my homie Luke James. The show was concluded by Chance The Rapper and his band who gave the crowd what they had been waiting for all night. Big lights, a live band, and passion in his bars. After the show was over Ashley, Curtis, Pierre, Kah and I went to U & Pizza and called the night a wrap!
The following day Olivia (my cousin who i stay with when in DC) , Pierre, and I went to Hot and Juicy for lunch. The wait was so long but the food was so worth that we ended up missing ‘Best Day Ever’. Which would have been nice to attend, but i’ll catch the ‘Best Day Ever’ crew next go round.
Overall the weekend was a win! I got to spend time with my cousin who is in the process of dreading her hair and becoming a certified hippie. By the way I now refer to her as Tarzan, and i also got to experience sounds and visuals by some of my favorite artist to date.
