Many consider makeup to be an art form and the new color correcting trend is pretty much direct proof of that! Everybody who’s anybody (aka every Insta-famous makeup guru) is doing it and if you aren’t familiar with the process yet, it can actually look quite ridiculous! But fret not beauties, as I am here to help catch you up to speed!
In order to understand how color correcting works, you have to think back to the color wheel we were all introduced to in elementary school art class.
As a refresher, red is across from green, therefore green concealers combat redness (from scars, pimples, birthmarks, etc.) This is useful for any zits/inflammations that simply refuse to be buried under neutral colored concealers.
Purple is across from yellow, so the lilac and lavender hued correctors work to conceal yellow spots and tones. If you happen to have a dull yellow undertone during cloudy seasons (like me), using a purple tinted primer can help brighten your skin tone during those rough, sunshine-free months!
For those of you with darker skin tones, you might want to try orange concealers. Orange is across from blue on the color wheel and really helps cancel out stubborn dark under-eye circles or dark areas around the nose & mouth (which can end up looking like a 5 o’clock shadow under our normal concealers… Not cute!)
Once you apply & blend the correcting color over your discolorations, simply layer your normal foundation over it and voila! Completely even skin tone! Most of us have varying skin tones/types on our faces, so palettes with multiple correcting concealers can be especially useful! Here are a few reasonably priced palette’s I’ve found that have gotten great reviews, enjoy!
