Dear Social Media,
Oh, where do I begin? Honey, you’re great. You’re more than great, you are wonderful. And we’ve had some really good times together, some good laughs, funny moments and touching memories.
All those memes and cat videos, I’ll never forget. But we need some space, I’ve been avoiding this moment but the time has come. I need time to breathe and go outside to enjoy the sun, experience life without likes. This relationship has consumed me and I need to find myself outside of an online platform.
This has been coming on for a long time. We just don’t communicate like we used to. Heck, here I am writing this to you instead of just speaking to you in person, what does that say about us? Look no one did anything wrong, it obviously just wasn’t meant to be. So let’s skip the blame and let me just express my sincere appreciation for you.
I admire you for your humor and knowledge. You always seem so cool with photo filters and in control and I scroll through you in awe. You are more intelligent than anyone I know and it goes beyond the normal book smarts, you understand the side of people they want the world to see.
But I need to see the world for what it is, without the lens or captions of what people want us to see. I need to talk to people face to face and experience human interaction.
I hope you understand and we can remain (Facebook) friends.
Sincerely,
Everyone who needs a social media detox
