Overthinking, yes, many of us are guilty of it. We replay situations in our head over and over again. We make up imaginary scenarios that haven’t happened yet or probably never will. We think ourselves into a bad mood. We think ourselves into depression, stress, and anxiety. We can overthink because we are excited. We are in love. We want to do a good job. We are nervous. We have a difficult decision to make. We are apprehensive. etc.
Let’s be honest! Overthinking can make situations much worse than it needs to be and it usually happens at the worst time. That’s right, when its time to sleep! I struggled with this for a while until I finally got fed up and decided to do something about it. It became very difficult for me to sleep because of worrying about situations that were out of my control anyway.
I personally believe in a higher power. I learned to pray and let it go and this communication was constant. Also, it’s important to not be so hard on yourself. It’s okay to feel (anything at all) but getting stuck there is whats NOT okay. I came across an article by Sharon Martin that has also helped me (this is for both believers and non-believers in a higher power).
7 Effective Ways to Stop Overthinking
1.Write it down
2.Plan a time to worry.
3.Limit worrying to 15-30 minutes
4. Distract yourself.
5.Tell yourself firmly to stop.
6.Determine if you can change it.
7. Get Physical.
Remember, you are in control of what you think. There is a lot of power in your mind (law of attraction). The same way that you can think yourself into a bad mood is the same way you can think yourself into a good mood. Staying busy and productive with the things you love really helps. Trust your gut! Believe in yourself! You probably already know what you need to do anyway but your thoughts are clouding your brain.
