Chance the Youth Pastor
March 9, 2017

“Are You Ready For Your Blessings?”

Chicago’s newest MC is a bright light in hip-hop. As a person who never popped molly nor wanted to hear a Tyga song about it, Coloring Book is a welcome palette cleanse. The 23-year-old Grammy-award winning artist is making waves with his authenticity, his youthful positivity and his unwavering faith in the Man Upstairs.

Anyone who heard Chance’s first two efforts, “10 Day” and “Acid Raps” can see this as a 180 from where the rapper first stood. 10 day is filled with tales of an adolescence spent sparring with authority, inner demons, peer pressure, and drug usage. Acid Raps are exactly what they seem, drug-fueled musings about life, Chance’s place in it and how his surroundings are close to what he wants but not quite there yet.

“This aint no intro, this the entrée” couldn’t be truer. Coloring Book serves as a proclamation to what Chance’s 2016 will look like. Fresh off of his addiction to acid he is back with his woman, a father now and a vessel of the Lord. Those factors combined with cosign from Auntie Yonce, Hov and Ye skyrocketed Chance to the top of everyone’s radar this year. “No Problems” was literally everywhere from Ellen to Hennypalooza. He’s writing jingles for Kit Kat, throwing music festivals in his hometown, clothing the homeless, fighting scalpers, all while unsigned and giving out his music for free. Chance reigned supreme by claiming the victory that God had set forth for him.

Chance is basically Hip-Hop’s first youth pastor. What other 23-year-old millionaire rapper openly proclaims, “I don’t believe in the kings, I believe in the Kingdom”? His life is so perfect he could merch it and that’s what happens when you step into your blessings. Even non-Christians have rallied around Chance as a bright light in their lives. It doesn’t take a visit to church to see the authenticity and success that exudes from Lil Chano. As a devout Christian I can say we are all vessels of the Lord if we choose to be. And I couldn’t be happier for Chance as he carries the message far and fast.
